"Waltz for Debbie" at the Dakota

Debbie Duncan was one of the greatest jazz vocalists in the Twin Cities. She performed with many local and national acts. The Wolverines Jazz Quartet, featuring Rick Carlson, Jendeen Forberg, and Steve Pikal, leads this tribute to the legendary Ms. Duncan. Also, featured vocalists Judi Vinar and Dennis Spears will share songs and stories.

Dennis Spears was inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in 2013. As a jazz vocalist, Spears has performed nationally and internationally. The Minnesota Music Awards awarded him Best Male Jazz Vocalist, and he has many recordings to his credit.

Spears is a proud Penumbra Theatre company member and has also performed roles with the Guthrie Theater and Illusion Theater. Also, Mixed Blood, Indiana Repertory Theatre, Hartford Stage, Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, Chanhassen Dinner Theatre, and The Kennedy Center. For his portrayal of one of his music idols, Nat King Cole, Spears was awarded an Ivey Award for Excellence in Acting. Moreover, he is a proud North Minneapolis homeowner and recently became ordained deacon at Kingdom Life Church in North Minneapolis.

Judi Vinar has been singing since the age of four and began her professional career in 1983. Then, she started in folk/country, musical theater, and opera, further exploring jazz, pop, R&B, rock, and Gospel. Now, she tackles any style – “good songs are just that – no need to choose one style over the other.”

Judi moved to the Twin Cities in 1987 and developed musical relationships with many of the Twin Cities finest. Here, she appears with Lori Dokken, The Wolverines, St. Croix Jazz Orchestra, JazzMN Orchestra, and her own Judi, Cliff ‘n’ Daves.

Recommended for fans of Nat King Cole, Johnny Hartman, Roberta Flack and Dinah Washington.

"Summers in the Sixties" at Crooners - Main Stage

Dinner and cocktail seating and service begins 1 hour before showtimes.

The Perfect Independence Day Concert of Resilience and Resistance

From the streets of America in the 60s came songs of love, peace, equality, civil rights, challenges to power and authority as well as commentaries on community building. We are taking it inside from the streets and to the stage to honor a time when artists spoke out to make a difference and change the course of history. The Vietnam War ended a few years later, civil rights laws were passed, and a trajectory was set to impeach a president. The people rose up and the music had a lot to do with their motivation.

We were there … and we are still protesting injustice and inequality 60 years later. We invite you to stop on in and sing with us and join the musical movement!

Holding court will be sisters in their sixties and beyond:

Patty Peterson: Vocals

Ginger Commodore: Vocals

Judi Vinar: Vocals

Lori Dokken: Piano and Vocals

"Women on the Moon"

“Women on the Moon”

Sunday, September 21st, 2025 @ 7:00 PM

Women on the Moon is a concert event that showcases some of our favorite artists from the 1960s such as: Mama Cass, Tina Turner, Aretha, Cher, Dusty Springfield, Lesley Gore, Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, Dionne Warwick, Mavis Staples, Joan Baez, Cher, Ella, Shirley Bassey, Laura Nyro, Diana Ross, Barbra, Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, Nancy Sinatra, and the great Nina Simone.

The 1960s was one of the most memorable decades of all time in the history of The United States.  It started out with the election of President John F. Kennedy and the dawn of “Camelot” and closed out with the first man landing on the moon.  In between these bookends would be the assassinations of JFK, RFK and MLK; civil rights legislation; protests; drugs; The Feminine Mystique; Black Power; hippies; Vietnam; Gloria Steinem; Nixon; the Watts riots; Andy Warhol; Stonewall; NOW; The Beatles; Laugh-In; The Rolling Stones; Twiggy; Woodstock; and so many other momentous events.

While men landed on the moon, women artists took their own giant leap into every area of the musical landscape.  The ‘60s were inarguably the most prolific decade for female vocalists and musicians in many diverse styles and categories.  From pop and folk to rock and roll and rhythm and blues, women launched themselves into the music scene and claimed their space in the mostly male dominated industry.
